In an impressive live demonstration, trained canines of the Intelligence Security Wing (ISW) of the Andhra Pradesh Police showcased their capabilities on Wednesday.

Be it tactical assault routines or sniffing out narcotics concealed wrapped in complex packaging, the skilled pack of Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds demonstrated their prowess.

Accompanied by their handlers, the canines demonstrated flawless discipline, agility, and specialised tactical skills at the passing-out parade of the 23rd batch of canines and their handlers at the Canine Training Centre on the A.P. Special Police’s 6th Battalion premises near Mangalagiri on Wednesday.

In total, 36 canines completed their 10-month training in detection of explosives, narcotics, cadavers and in assault and Search & Rescue (S&R).

Participating in the event, Home Minister V. Anitha praised the police canines for their role in the detection of crimes, boosting crime detection with the help of modern technologies and advanced forensic evidence processing.

Currently, 218 canines are serving the Police Department in the State, and 78 of them were trained in the last two years, she said.

“The canine wing of the police has proved their mettle in solving cases. They have played a key role in crubing the drug cases,” she said.

Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta said canines have become the most reliable companions in policing. Canines trained in cadaver detection are being inducted into the A.P. State Disaster Response Force for the first time. The dog handlers and other staff are trained in advanced methods in coordination with the CRPF Dog Breeding & Training Centre in Taralu (Bengaluru). Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds have been introduced for dual duties in accordance with internal security requirements,” he said.

DGP (CID) Ravishankar Ayyanar, Director General (ACB) Atul Singh, Additional DGs Mahesh Chandra Laddha (Intelligence) and N. Madhusudana Reddy (Law and Order), Inspectors General of Police B. Rajakumari, Kanthi Rana Tata and K.V. Mohan Rao and SP K. Arif Hafeez were present.
