Supreme Court directs ECI to furnish details of 3.66 lakh excluded voters from final Bihar electoral roll

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Election Commission to provide it with the details of 3.66 lakh excluded voters from the final electoral roll prepared after Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The Election Commission informed the apex court that most of the names added are of new voters and that no complaint or appeal has been filed till now by any excluded voter. A Bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi said the poll panel will submit whatever information it gets on excluded voters by Thursday (October 9), when it will conduct further hearing on the pleas challenging the SIR exercise.

2025 Nobel Prize in Physics goes to three scientists for discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling

The Nobel Prize in Physics is being awarded to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret and John M. Martinis “for the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit,” the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced in Stockholm on Tuesday (October 7, 2025).

Cough-syrup deaths: Congress demands judicial probe, compensation for deceased’s families

In the wake of reported deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan allegedly due to the consumption of a cough syrup, the Congress on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) demanded a judicial probe into the matter, strict action against those responsible and compensation for the families of the deceased.

Supreme Court to hear plea seeking CBI probe into Karur stampede on October 10

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) agreed to hear on October 10 a plea challenging the Madras High Court’s refusal to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the September 27 stampede at Karur, which occurred during a political rally of actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder C. Joseph Vijay. The tragedy claimed 41 lives and left over 60 injured.

Raebareli lynching is a crime against the Constitution, Dalits, and humanity: Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi in joint statement

Condemning the killing of a Dalit man in Raebareli, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) issued a joint statement which said the Raebareli lynching was a crime against the Indian Constitution and Dalits, and a blot on the nation and society.

Divided Israel marks two years since Oct 7 attack as Gaza war grinds on, hostages languish

Israelis prepared to mourn the dead on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) as the nation marks two years since Hamas’s October 7 attack plunged the region into a devastating war, while Israel and Hamas hold indirect talks in Egypt. The main memorial ceremony is being organised by bereaved families, not the government, reflecting deep divisions over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership, which many blame for the failure to secure a ceasefire that would free the remaining hostages held by the militant group.
