In a novel way, the front windshield of buses operated by Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai districts now display the slogan “Be kind to Animal” to promote compassion towards animals on roads.

Officials of TNSTC said that the initiative, which began in these districts a few days ago, is a part of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ drive in all States and Union Territories to promote compassion and safety of animals on roads, including highways.

As part of it, the display of the slogan can be in English, Hindi, or regional languages on all public transport vehicles. “In the first phase, we have displayed the slogans in Chennai-bound buses (198 buses) from Vellore zone that comprises Vellore, Ranipet and Tirupattur districts. Buses to other cities like Bengaluru and Trichy will be covered in the coming days,” said A. Ganapathy, General Manager, TNSTC (Vellore).

TNSTC officials said that bright blue colour has been selected for these stickers to enhance the readability among commuters and passersby. The slogan will help people, especially drivers, to be mindful of animals, mostly stray dogs and cattle, and small birds on the stretches and make roads safer for all.

TNSTC officials said that at present, 44 buses are operated to Bengaluru, 26 buses to Trichy and five buses to Pondicherry. Apart from this, 227 town buses are also run by TNSTC in these districts. The slogan stickers will be displayed in these buses in the coming days.
