The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday (January 19, 2026) welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention directing the Election Commission of India (ECI) to publish the list of persons to whom notices have been sent, citing “logical discrepancies” in the enumeration forms submitted by them during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.
About 1.36 crore notices of ‘logical discrepancies’ have been issued by the ECI over the past month, after the first phase of the SIR in West Bengal, but the Commission did not publish the list of the people who had been issued this notice.

The Supreme Court on Monday (January 19) also instructed the ECI to provide clear guidance for submitting documents and objections, and asked the West Bengal government to provide adequate manpower for the process.
“The SC has rightly ordered that the names of those arbitrarily slapped with the vague, sinister label of ‘logical discrepancy’ must be publicly published. The BJP-ECI combine has been exposed for the Bangla birodhi zamindars (landowners against the Bangla people) they are,” the Trinamool Congress posted on social media .
TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also hailed the development. “The BJP’s game of SIR has ended. This is a victory of ma (mother), maati (earth), manush (human) and the people of Bengal. Those who wanted to take away the fundamental right of voting of the people of Bengal, this is a tight slap on both their cheeks by the Supreme Court,” Mr. Banerjee said at a public meeting on Monday (January 19).

The Trinamool Congress leader also added that he had “defeated them (the BJP) judicially, and in April will defeat them electorally (in the Assembly election)”.
The Supreme Court had also said the list of unmapped voters must be published, the TMC said in its social media post, and “BLAs (Booth-Level Agents nominated by political parties) allowed to attend hearings,…Madhyamik admit cards accepted as valid ID, and written receipts issued to every summoned voter”. The ECI had refused to allow electors using the admit card of Madhyamik (Class X Board) exams as a valid document for the SIR process.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in her fifth letter to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on January 12, had pointed out that many genuine voters were being wrongly categorised under ‘logical discrepancies’. Her government would move the Supreme Court over the ‘logical discrepancies’, Ms. Banerjee.
Several eminent persons of the State, including Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, actor and Trinamool Congress MP Dev, several MLAs of the Trinamool Congress, and former Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta, have been served notices to appear before the ECI under the ‘logical discrepancies’ category.
