Three ‘journalists’ arrested for trying to extort money from officer

Belagavi Police have arrested three men who posed as journalists and tried to extort money from a woman government officer.

The arrested have been identified as Sameer Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, Abdul Rasheed Makandar and Mohammad Balekundri, all residents of Gokak.

They installed a hidden camera in a light holder in the woman officer’s house, recorded her private videos and subsequently, demanded ₹50 lakh from her.

The officer then filed a complaint with Malmaruti Police in Belagavi.

Acting on the complaint, the police, led by Inspector B.R. Gaddeker, carried out an operation and arrested the three men from Gokak.
