In view of the high footfall of tourists to Mysuru during Dasara and the consequent traffic gridlock that occurs every year, the authorities will establish temporary bus stands to enforce one-way rules across the city to regulate and streamline traffic and reduce congestion.
Commissioner of Police Seema Latkar made the announcement here on Friday. Speaking to reporters, the Commissioner said that there will be nine temporary bus stands in different areas of the city to cater to those particular zones of which three will cater to the suburban routes and six will cater to the city routes.
She said the issue of traffic congestion and gridlock that will be caused during Dasara was discussed by the police with officials of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, and it was decided to disperse traffic by establishing temporary bus stands to avoid convergence at the city centre.
A temporary stand will be established at Sathgalli to cater to the KSRTC vehicles coming from Bengaluru, at Maharaja’s College Grounds for suburban services catering to buses plying on Manadavadi Road, Hunsur and Bogadi roads, at Gundurao Nagar ground for buses operating from and to Nanjangud side and at Lalitha Mahal Palace grounds for buses operating on the T. Narsipur and Bannur Roads.
Similarly, temporary bus stands will be established at Agrahara Circle for buses plying towards Vidyaranyapuram, J.P. Nagar, Sriranpura, H.D. Kote, Nanjangud, and Kadakola; at Dasappa Circle for routes covering KRS, Yelwal, Belavadi, Vijayanagar, Hebbal, Koorgalli, and Hootagalli; at Five Light Circle for routes covering Srirangapatna, Siddalingapura, N.R. Mohalla, Kesare, Udayagiri, and Naidunagar; at Vayuvihar Marg for routes covering Siddarthanagar, Mahadevapura, and Bannur; at Boulevard Circle for routes covering Chamundi Hills, Police Layout, Alanahalli, and Lalitadripura and at Maharaja’s College Grounds for routes linking Kuempunagar, Saraswathipuram, Ramakrishna Nagar and Bogadi.
As a result of the temporary arrangements which will be in vogue till the conclusion of Dasara on October 2, there will be changes in the routes of the KSRTC buses, suburban services, private buses, etc. during the festival period.
One-way rule
As the traffic flow is high at night to watch the illumination of the city, the police will clamp one-way rule around the palace and surrounding areas while parking on either side of the roads along these routes will be prohibited.
Ms. Seema Latkar said there will be clock-wise and anti-clockwise movement of vehicles in the core areas, and these rules will come into effect from September 22 and will be in force till October 2.
All vehicles will have to move in anti-clock wise direction around the palace from Chamaraja Circle to K.R. Circle, New Sayyaji Rao Road, Rachaiah Circle, Gun House Circle, Wrestling Arena or Kusti Akhada, B.N. Road, Jayachamaraja Circle (Hardinge Circle), and Albert Victor Road. Movement of vehicles in the opposite directions is banned to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
From the K.R. Circle, vehicles will move in clock-wise direction to Ayurvedic College and Hospital Circle, Irwin Road, Nehru Circle, Ashoka Road, Silver Jubilee Clock Tower and Chamaraja Circle.
In addition to the above, one-way rules will be in place along roads leading to the city centre, said the Commissioner. Senior officials of the police department were present.
