Union Minister of State for Science & Technology Jitendra Singh has said the Union Budget 2026-27 was not merely a financial document but a powerful roadmap for development drawn for the next 25 years.

The main objective of the budget was to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and it would make the country stronger in the global economic landscape, he asserted.

Addressing the media on the Union Budget on Saturday, Mr. Jitendra Singh said that in a significant step to ease the healthcare burden on the common man, 17 types of cancer drugs and seven medicines for rare diseases were exempted from taxes.

Special emphasis had been laid on mental health, and ₹10,000 crore has been allocated to the bio-technology sector to give a fillip to bio-manufacturing.

He stated that a mission was launched for the scientific development of cities and the mapping of land records using drones. Further, Mr. Singh said the budget allocated ₹20,000 crore for carbon capture projects to promote green industry.

Towards realising the vision of becoming a vibrant sporting nation, proposals have been made to host the 2036 Olympics, for which a special governing body is being set up, he said, adding that the Central government is giving a top priority to the development of Andhra Pradesh.

BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav said focus was laid on extracting and processing rare minerals found in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and steps were taken to strengthen the blue economy.

Due priority has been given to the agriculture sector, which was the backbone of AP’s economy, he noted.
