The Telangana government will establish exclusive Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) parks for women in each of the 119 Assembly constituencies as part of a long-term strategy to promote women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, Minister for Information Technology and Industries D. Sridhar Babu announced on Sunday.

The larger idea, he stressed, is to position women as the key stakeholders in the vision to transform Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047.

Mr. Sridhar Babu was addressing the WE-Enable graduation ceremony organised by WE Hub at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University here.

Women empowerment, he said, must begin within the family and translate into active participation in economic and social life. He observed that ‘there is a visible change in social attitudes towards women across Telangana, which signals a deeper shift in societal thinking’.

The Telangana’s Female Labour Force Participation Rate (FLFPR) stands at 52.7%, higher than the national average of 45.2%. The growth in women’s workforce participation in the State increased sharply from 22% during 2017–18 to 40.3% in 2023–24, he said citing data, and added that it reflects better access to employment and enterprise opportunities now.

Mr. Sridhar Babu lauded WE Hub for its crucial role in nurturing women entrepreneurs and said the proposed WE Hub 2.0 initiative would focus on building globally competitive women-led enterprises. The government is creating an integrated entrepreneurial ecosystem to enable women to access skilling, technology, finance, markets and mentorship under one framework, he informed.

“Young women are not just learners — they are problem solvers and changemakers. I urge every young woman to ask herself, “Why can’t I become a role model?” he said, congratulating the graduates. He urged them to move beyond conventional employment and become job creators and enterprise leaders, and to contribute directly to the State’s economic growth.

The ceremony witnessed the first batch of 600 women graduates. As part of their programme, the students had classroom learning, real-world experience on how industries function, on handling challenges and turning ideas into action.

Sharing their journey and ideas at the event were film producer Priyanka Dutt, Olympian and entrepreneur Jwala Gutta and WE Hub CEO Sita Pallacholla.
