Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, ADG Mahesh Bhagwat, and Director General of Special Protection Force Swati Lakra, during a review meeting in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy on Thursday urged police officers across Telangana to uphold ‘Fair, Firm, Friendly and Professional Policing’ as the core philosophy of their work, stressing that modern policing must be people-centric, accountable, and technologically driven.

Addressing all Additional DGPs, Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and DCPs of the State at the DGP’s office, Mr. Reddy said the four-fold motto represented the spirit of contemporary policing, humane in approach, yet uncompromising in ethics and efficiency. He elaborated that fairness meant justice and equality before the law, firmness stood for impartial enforcement, friendliness fostered public trust, and professionalism embodied integrity and accountability.

He emphasised that basic policing, including beat patrols, surveillance, intelligence gathering, crime prevention and community engagement, should remain the backbone of the Telangana Police. He said that true success was not measured by statistics but by the confidence and trust of the public.

Highlighting the importance of innovation, Mr. Reddy said integrating artificial intelligence with traditional policing could revolutionise crime prevention, improve situational awareness and enhance administrative efficiency.

On road safety, Mr. Reddy expressed serious concern that while Telangana records around 900 murders annually, nearly 8,000 people die in road accidents each year. He directed strict enforcement, night patrols, drunk-driving checks and public awareness campaigns, and instructed that every fatal accident be reviewed with on-site inspections and corrective measures.

He urged officers to lead with courage, integrity and compassion, and said teamwork, transparency and trust were essential for Telangana to become a model of policing in the country.

Commissioners of Police V. C. Sajjanar (Hyderabad), Sudheer Babu (Rachakonda), Avinash Mohanty (Cyberabad) and several senior officers attended the meeting.
