Unlike Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav who has taken a long break post Assembly election debacle, his elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav is actively working to explore all the possibilities in days to come.

His recent invitation to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha for the Makar Sankranti Dahi-Chura feast is being widely discussed in the political circle of Bihar.

The eldest son of RJD Chief Lalu Prasad who has been sidelined in the party has given the invitation to other constituents of National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Mr. Yadav has organised the feast at his residence on January 14 in which he is giving invitations to the leaders of the NDA. In the recently concluded assembly election, he contested from his own political party Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) which he had formed ahead of the election but got defeated from the Mahua Assembly seat.

The invitees also include Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) national president and minister in the Nitish Kumar Cabinet Santosh Kumar Suman, Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) leader and minister Deepak Prakash, son of RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha and Bihar Legislative Council Chairperson Awadhesh Narayan Singh who comes from BJP quota.

Mr. Tej Pratap shared the photo while giving the invitation to these leaders saying that he has visited their respective residence to invite them for the feast which he has organised at 26-M, Strand Road in Patna.

Later, when the media asked about the giving invitation, Mr. Yadav said, “Our party is giving an invitation to everyone including Chief Minister, Governor and Leader of Opposition as well.”

His video of exchanging the mobile number with Mr. Sinha went viral on social media when he had visited his residence to invite him on January 7, 2026.

However, the JJD leader has not yet shared any photo while giving invitations to the non-NDA leaders on his social media platform ‘X’.

Dahi-Chura feast in Bihar is a popular political event in which all the top leaders of the State host at their respective residence. Among all, the feast, the one hosted by Lalu Prasad at 10, Circular Road has been considered the most famous.

The occasion is also treated as a place of clearing the differences and a table of negotiation in which political rivalry is settled down.

The feast at Mr. Prasad’s residence was also a symbol of communal harmony as the first day used to be dedicated to Hindu visitors and second day for the Muslims visitor in which a large number of people used to gather.

The preparation of the feast used to start well in advance in which flattened rice, curd, jaggery with mixed vegetables and tilkut (sesame sweet) are served.

There is political murmuring in Bihar that Mr. Tej Pratap is trying to carry forward the tradition of his father under the banner of his own party.

A RJD leader requesting anonymity said that after losing the election, Tej Pratap may be looking for an opportunity to become the member of Legislative Council from BJP quota as few seats have fallen vacant after sitting MLC have become members of Legislative Assembly.

Asked about giving invitations to BJP leaders, Mr. Tej Pratap said that political rivalries are different and personal relations are different.

Mr. Prasad had in May 2025 expelled him from the party who used to represent Hasanpur Assembly seat and had also snapped all family ties with him, stating that his actions were “irresponsible” and not in accordance with public conduct.
