Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) the State Legislative Assembly would adopt a resolution on October 14, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and urging the Indian government to make every effort to end the war.
“The resolution will reflect the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu. I hope all parties, across political lines, will support it,” he said while speaking at a protest opposing the Gaza strikes organised by the CPI(M), attended by the DMK and its allies in Chennai.

Mr. Stalin stated that the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), in violation of international human rights and United Nations policies, had shaken the entire world. “Everyone who has participated in this meeting has condemned Israel’s mass killings,” he said near Rajarathnam Stadium, Egmore.
The Chief Minister noted that over 50,000 people had been killed in the conflict, including 11,000 women, 17,000 children, 175 journalists and 125 UN employees. “Some 26,000 children have lost their parents. More than one lakh people injured in the war are receiving treatment in hospitals. A major part of Gaza has been completely destroyed. Yet, the people of Palestine continue to resist the Israeli invasion,” he said.
Mr. Stalin added the IDF had killed 45 people who were waiting for food supplies, an act that had deeply affected people around the world. “Volunteers from 47 countries carrying milk powder, food and relief materials were arrested. Can we remain silent spectators without condemning Israel’s actions, which violate international law?” he asked.
Emphasising that the objective of the protest meeting was to bring an end to the war in Gaza, Mr. Stalin urged the Indian government to work closely with international organisations to exert pressure on Israel. “World peace and human rights are universal. Human life is invaluable. We have a duty to protect it,” he said.
Mr. Stalin called for the provision of essential supplies including food and medicine to the people of Palestine, and stressed the need for a rehabilitation programme and the reconstruction of Gaza. “All prisoners should be released,” he added.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Selvaperunthagai, CPI(M) leaders P. Shanmugam, K. Balakrishnan, and U.Vasuki; CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian, and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader M.H. Jawahirullah were among the participants.
