The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of CPSUs under the Ministry of Power, signed MoUs for investments amounting to ₹5,000 crore with the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), Industries and Tourism Departments of Andhra Pradesh for a wide range of energy-efficiency initiatives, at the just-concluded CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam.

On the occasion, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu extended full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Panchamrit Vision, calling it a historic mission vital for environment protection, economic sustainability and the long-term welfare of future generations.

He stressed that large-scale public participation was essential to counter climate change, and reaffirmed the State’s commitment to the national goals announced by the PM at the Glasgow Climate Summit to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil power capacity by 2030, meeting 50% of energy needs through renewables, reducing carbon emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030, and reaching Net Zero by 2070. He noted that A.P. has already taken steps to contribute nearly 160 GW to the national renewable-energy target.

One of the significant steps is a partnership with EESL for installing and upgrading 10 lakh LED streetlights in urban areas and planning seven lakh new lights in rural areas over and above the 23 lakh rural lights that were already installed. With this, the State’s overall footprint will reach 4 million LED streetlights in less than two years.

It was mentioned in an official release that the LED transition was expected to significantly reduce electricity consumption, peak power demand, and annual expenditure for Urban Local Bodies and Gram Panchayats, while the longer life and lower failure rate of LEDs would curtail maintenance costs. Besides, the LED infrastructure would yield environmental gains of reduced GHG emissions, lower energy intensity and sustainable public infrastructure.

The EESL also proposed the introduction of geothermal technology in Araku Valley for water heating, space heating and integrated clean-energy solutions that can deliver 50–70% annual energy savings with a 4–5-year payback period, and a life cycle exceeding 15 years.

Ministers P. Narayana (MA&UD), Kondapalli Srinivas (MSMEs) and Kandula Durgesh (Tourism), Special CS. Ajay Jain, Principal Secretaries S. Suresh Kumar, N. Yuvaraj and K. Amrapali, EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit, CGM Animesh Mishra, GM Savitri Singh, National Advisor (Government Affairs and Media) A. Chandra Sekhar Reddy and others were present at the MoU signing event.
