Taking suo motu cognisance of a conservancy worker manually removing human waste from a public toilet in Tiruppur city, the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has called for a detailed report from the district administration and the city corporation.
According to the directive, the instance of the conservancy worker cleaning human waste without gloves and mask at the public toilet near Tiruppur Kumaran Bus Stand in the 60th ward was flagged by a television channel and social media platforms, on June 4.
The conservancy worker, Chandran, could be seen stating on June 1 that his supervisor Gopal and Sanitary Inspector Ramakrishnan had insisted on the manual clearing of the human waste without the safety kit.
The District Collector and Corporation Commissioner must submit a detailed report on the incident before June 19, the directive said.
