T.N. Higher Education Minister inaugurates skill development centre for differently abled students

A skill development centre exclusively for differently abled students, set up by the Directorate of Technical Education on the Central Polytechnic Campus at a cost of ₹ 50 lakh, was inaugurated on Monday by Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan.

The centre, named Sudar Oli, will have an annual intake of 60 differently abled students and the programme will be run in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation and the Commissionerate of Welfare of the Differently Abled.

The Minister also gave away Nal Aasaan awards to six principals and 15 lecturers of different polytechnic colleges for their role in enhancing students’ knowledge and performance. Besides, 30 polytechnic colleges that achieved 100 per cent pass were given certificates. Two students who were above 50 years old were also felicitated. The Minister also handed over appointment orders to five persons who secured jobs on compassionate grounds.

Among those present were P. Shankar, Higher Education Secretary, J. Innocent Divya, Commissioner, Directorate of Technical Education, and O.G. Dharanipathy, Principal, Central Polytechnic.
