Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday said the State had emerged as a leader in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth due to the Dravidian Model government led by the DMK.

“Tamil Nadu has achieved phenomenal growth, moving past other States,” the Chief Minister said in a message on social media. “Area-wise, Tamil Nadu may not be a large State; it is also not the most populous State. It has not received adequate support or assistance from the Union government. Yet, Tamil Nadu has topped GSDP growth with a rate of 16%,” he said.

Citing the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Mr. Stalin said Tamil Nadu, while sustaining stable growth over the past three years, had also recorded the highest growth rate. “We are not saying this; the RBI has announced it,” he added.

Mr. Stalin said that between 2021 and 2025, the State’s economy had grown by ₹10.50 lakh crore. “The total value stands at ₹31.19 lakh crore. Although States such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat are comparable with Tamil Nadu, it has surpassed them in growth. This achievement belongs to Tamil Nadu,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said Tamil Nadu had also achieved a significant milestone in per capita income. “When we complete the Dravidian Model government’s tenure in 2031, I will ensure that Tamil Nadu attains the top position in all sectors across the country,” he said.

Youth wing meeting

In a separate video message, Mr Stalin, who is also the president of the DMK, recalled the State’s unique features while inviting party cadre to the North Region Youth Wing meeting to be held in Tiruvannamalai. The event will be organised along the lines of the meeting held at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai, which featured a book fair and serious debates under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

“You, the Dravidian stock, are welcome. I will meet you. You wondered whether a Chennai-like event would be held in your area. Now, it is happening. You will carry forward the ideology of the Dravidian movement from generation to generation and have the historic duty of fighting for Tamil Nadu’s rights,” he said.

Mr. Stalin said a total of 1,30,000 youth from 29 party district units, 91 Assembly constituencies, and various local bodies would participate in the meeting.

‘Empowering scheme’

Mr. Stalin on Saturday said the achievement of Madhavi, a resident of Ramanathapuram, was a testament to the empowering nature of the Magalir Urimai Thittam, which was launched by the DMK government. Under this scheme, women receive ₹1,000 per month.

The Chief Minister, who shared Ms. Madhavi’s speech, said she had provided a fitting response to those who were skeptical of the scheme. “She used the money to buy chickens and later goats, which helped fund her son’s education,” he said in a message on social media.

In the video, Ms. Madhavi said that when she received the assistance in 2023, she used the amount to buy two chickens and earned additional income by selling eggs.

“I started buying more and more chickens. I kept the money for a few months and later bought two goats. I sold them for ₹1,500 each. I bought another and sold it for ₹10,000 to pay for my son’s education,” she said.
