The State government promoted Suresh Rajpurohit and S. Sreejith to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) on Friday.

The promotions were implemented shortly after the retirement of Director General of Kerala Fire and Rescue Services Nitin Agrawal.

Notably, Mr. Rajpurohit’s promotion has been made on a proforma basis since he is presently away on Central deputation. Mr. Sreejith, who is presently posted as Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, will continue to hold the position.

Home Department sources indicated that more transfers are on the offing to fill the post of Managing Director of the  Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO), which has remained vacant for nearly a week since the suspension of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar, and the position of the Director General of Kerala Fire and Rescue Services

Meanwhile, speaking at his farewell parade held at the SAP ground in Peroorkada, Mr. Agrawal called Kerala Police as a model force for the country. He said the experience and training he received in the state had greatly contributed to his professional career and enabled him to serve more effectively in different assignments.

A 1989-batch IPS officer, Mr. Agrawal is the recipient of several prestigious honours, including the Medal for Meritorious Service (2007), the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2014) and multiple gold medals and commendations from various armed forces.

State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar, Road Safety Commissioner Yogesh Gupta, Vigilance Director Manoj Abraham and other senior police officers attended the farewell ceremony.
