Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday (February 9, 2026) directed the police “to strike decisively against terrorism” in the Union Territory (UT). Meanwhile, J&K remained peaceful on the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

Speaking at the inauguration of the J&K Police’s Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament in Jammu, Mr. Sinha said, “J&K Police’s unbreakable resolve and message to the nation is that — adversity will not crack our spirit. We will cross every barrier to claim new milestones as we advance.”

Directing the police to “strike decisively against terrorism”, Mr. Sinha said, “Collaborate with every individual in the society to eradicate the terror network entirely.”

Praising the J&K Police, Mr. Sinha said the brave personnel, who sacrificed their today for the nation’s tomorrow, wore their uniform as a duty towards all, and prized national honour above life. “They must live on in our memories,” he added.

The Lt. Governor also called upon every section of society to rise up against drug abuse. “We reaffirm our vow for a drug-free J&K and J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament declares that commitment,” Mr. Sinha said.

Meanwhile, the death anniversary of Afzal Guru passed off peacefully in Kashmir. Unlike in the past, no shutdown call was issued by separatists. Vehicle traffic was normal, and all offices and schools remained open. Guru was hanged in the Tihar Jail on February 9, 2013, for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack, and the hanging triggered a long spell of street protests in Kashmir.
