Construction of the new building at the Government Taluk Hospital, Koyilandy, will be completed within a year, and the hospital will be upgraded to a district hospital immediately after the project is completed, Health Minister K. Muraleedharan has said.
The Minister made the announcement while addressing a review meeting attended by elected representatives and members of the Hospital Development Committee during his visit to the hospital on Monday (July 13).
Mr. Muraleedharan said District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty had been asked to allot 10 cents of adjoining Revenue land to provide temporary facilities, including a mortuary, until the new building is completed.
“A blood bank will be set up at the hospital soon. The four vacant Medical Officer posts in the emergency wing will be filled without delay, while appointments will also be made to the posts of assistant surgeon, radiologist, anaesthetist, and junior consultant (Surgery),” he said.
The Minister said the government was committed to addressing deficiencies in government hospitals and ensuring that patients were not made to lie on the floor under any circumstances. He added that the physical infrastructure of government hospitals across the State would be upgraded by utilising Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from public sector undertakings.
K. Praveen Kumar, MLA, presided.
