Former Mayor P. Vishwanath, who is also secretary of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, and K.B. Gurumurthy, were felicitated after being conferred the Silver Elephant Award (2025), one of the highest honours for exemplary service in scouting conferred by the Bharat Scouts and Guides.
The felicitation ceremony was organised at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in Mysuru. Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami graced the occasion, while former Minister and P.G.R. Sindhia attended the function as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sindhia said that although many people credit him for the successful organisation of the 17th National Jamboree of the Bharat Scouts and Guides held in Mysuru in 2016, the real credit should go to Mr. Vishwanath.
He said Mr. Vishwanath had meticulously planned and coordinated the large-scale event, ensuring its smooth and successful conduct. The felicitation programme recognised the contributions of both Mr. Vishwanath and Mr. Gurumurthy to the scouting movement. Notably, both awardees are also recipients of the Silver Star Award for their continued service to scouting.
During the programme, a video presentation highlighted the life journeys and contributions of Mr. Vishwanath and Mr. Gurumurthy. Both expressed gratitude and shared their experiences in the scouting movement.
Gundappa Gowda, president of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Sadashive Gowda, principal of VVCE, and principals of various schools and colleges from Vidyavardhaka Sangha were present.
