Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader G. Sudhakaran on Wednesday (October 15, 2025) lashed out at Minister Saji Cherian, accusing the latter of conspiring to get him expelled from the party.

His scathing attack came in response to Mr. Cherian’s recent statement that Mr. Sudhakaran should go along with the party and not try to create problems for it.

Mr. Sudhakaran alleged that Mr. Cherian was party to the campaign by a few in the Alappuzha unit of the CPI(M) who had “burst crackers and organised a tea party” claiming that he would be expelled on allegations of his alleged lapses in electioneering in the Ambalapuzha Assembly constituency in the 2021 elections.

“I am stopping short of saying anything further, but Saji Cherian should realise that he has not grown enough to advise me. Nobody has won while fighting me on organisational and political lines as I had never said anything which was not factual and against party discipline. I am working inside the party and not close to it,” he told mediapersons in Alappuzha.

The former Minister alleged that a few persons close to Mr. Cherian had spread falsehood that he would join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “The Minister failed to act against those who had launched a cyberattack against me despite having clear evidence about who were behind it,” he alleged.

Slams A.K. Balan

He also criticised senior party leader and former Minister A. K Balan for his alleged remark that he had tried to scuttle his chances while being the State secretary of the Students’ Federation of India in 1972. “I have never said anything against Mr. Balan, who has not yet responded to the cyberattacks against me,” he said.

Mr. Sudhakaran said that he would “continue to speak out against a gang in the party” involved in spreading baseless allegations against senior party leaders, including former Minister K. K. Shailaja, on social media.
