Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai on Monday alleged that the CBI action against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay was aimed at forcing him into the BJP-led alliance, and said the move reflected political pressure being exerted from Delhi.

Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Nilgiris to supervise organisational arrangements, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said such action would not have been taken by the Tamil Nadu Police and accused the Centre of misusing Central agencies for political purposes.

Responding to questions on the DMK’s approach to alliance partners ahead of the Assembly election, he said the INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu remained intact and strong. He added that the DMK and Congress leaderships had not held talks with any other parties and that reports suggesting changes in the alliance structure were only rumours.

“All decisions on alliances will be taken by the leadership at the appropriate time,” he said.
