Security stepped up at Jhalmuri stall which PM visited during WB election campaign

Security has been stepped up at the ‘jhalmuri‘ stall in Jhargram town in West Bengal, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited during the campaign for the State Assembly polls on April 19.

Bikram Kumar Sau and his humble Jhalmuri stall made headlines when Mr. Modi made a stop to the stall near Raj College More in Jhargram town and bought jhalmuri (puffed rice mix).

Recently, Mr, Sau lodged a written complaint at the Jhargram police station, alleging that he had been receiving threatening phone calls and messages from people threatening to kill him.

“I was terrified after receiving repeated threats. My family members were also scared, and I had shut the shop for a few days,” the Jhalmuri vendor told media persons on Saturday (May 23, 2026). The Jhargram police have started an investigation into the case, with experts assisting in tracing the origin of the calls and messages. Two security personnel have been posted outside the Jhalmuri shop and will also provide security to the Jhalmuri vendor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Jhalmuri break has generated huge attention, and the BJP won all four seats in the district. In fact, the BJP swept the entire south-western parts of the State, winning almost all the seats in the region,
