SDPI blames LDF, UDF for BJP’s third term in Palakkad

The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) third consecutive term in the Palakkad municipality was made possible, despite the party lacking a majority, by the “hypocritical stances of both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF).”

SDPI leader Mohammed Ilyas said here on Saturday that the BJP assumed power in the Palakkad municipality despite holding only 25 of the 53 seats in the council because of the blatant political duplicity of both the LDF and the UDF.

He said the LDF and the UDF could have kept the BJP out of power by backing an Independent candidate for the municipal chairperson’s post. “But sadly, both fronts took a stance that indirectly helped the BJP,” he said.

Mr. Ilyas accused the LDF and the UDF of effectively allowing fascist forces to stay in power, despite their vocal criticism of fascism. “The BJP’s continued rule in Palakkad is no accident; it reflects the political opportunism of both the UDF and the LDF,” he said.
