Chennai-based Help the Blind Foundation (HTBF), in collaboration with the Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs (HEPSN) Wing of Andhra Loyola College (ALC), organised a scholarship distribution programme for visually challenged students.
HEPSN coordinator at ALC, G. Sahaya Baskaran, said a total of ₹6.89 lakh was distributed to 38 visually challenged students from colleges in Vijayawada and Guntur for the academic year 2025-26. Of them, 18 students were from ALC, 12 from A.C. College, Guntur, five from Hindu College, Guntur, two from S.R.R. and C.V.R. Government College and one from Maris Stella College.
Day scholars received ₹12,000 each, while ALC hostel students received ₹30,000 each, he informed, adding that the foundation had also extended scholarships to Intermediate students this year.
Andhra Pradesh Differently Abled and Senior Citizens Assistance Corporation Managing Director M.A. Kumar Raja appreciated HTBF’s 14 years of service and encouraged students to use the laptops and assistive technologies provided to them to enhance their skills and lead independent lives.
The programme was presided over by ALC principal S. Melchior, while those who attended included ALC correspondent A. Rex Angelo.
Farmers Day celebrated
The Department of Agriculture, ALC, celebrated National Farmers Day on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) highlighting the pivotal role of farmers in the nation’s development and food security.
Subject experts Arepalli Rambabu and Veeranjaneyulu emphasised the importance of organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices. They called upon students and the farming community to adopt environmental-friendly methods to ensure long-term agricultural sustainability and the well-being of both farmers and society.
Mega exhibition
ALC is also gearing up to host “ALCEXPO2K26 – Initiative for Innovations”, on January 6 and 7, 2026, on the college campus. The two-day mega exhibition will showcase a vibrant blend of arts, humanities, sciences, and management, offering an interdisciplinary learning experience.
The exhibition will feature live models, laboratories, digital labs, creative studios, health awareness exhibits, an air deck on aviation, Bio City, Quantum Computing demonstrations, AI tools, and career counselling zones, among many others. The expo is designed to ignite curiosity, creativity, and innovation among learners.
The event coordinator, Sri Kumar, released a brochure on the event on Tuesday. IQAC coordinator Sai Ram Prasad, vice-principal (second year UG) Srinivasa Reddy, vice-principal (first year UG) Siva Kumari, vice-principal (Intermediate) Satish, dean of student activities L. Subha, social media coordinator Shravan Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
