Chennai-based Help the Blind Foundation (HTBF), in collaboration with the Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs (HEPSN) Wing of Andhra Loyola College (ALC), organised a scholarship distribution programme for visually challenged students.

HEPSN coordinator at ALC, G. Sahaya Baskaran, said a total of ₹6.89 lakh was distributed to 38 visually challenged students from colleges in Vijayawada and Guntur for the academic year 2025-26. Of them, 18 students were from ALC, 12 from A.C. College, Guntur, five from Hindu College, Guntur, two from S.R.R. and C.V.R. Government College and one from Maris Stella College.

Day scholars received ₹12,000 each, while ALC hostel students received ₹30,000 each, he informed, adding that the foundation had also extended scholarships to Intermediate students this year.

Andhra Pradesh Differently Abled and Senior Citizens Assistance Corporation Managing Director M.A. Kumar Raja appreciated HTBF’s 14 years of service and encouraged students to use the laptops and assistive technologies provided to them to enhance their skills and lead independent lives.

The programme was presided over by ALC principal S. Melchior, while those who attended included ALC correspondent A. Rex Angelo.

Farmers Day celebrated

The Department of Agriculture, ALC, celebrated National Farmers Day on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) highlighting the pivotal role of farmers in the nation’s development and food security.

They called upon students and the farming community to adopt environmental-friendly methods to ensure long-term agricultural sustainability and the well-being of both farmers and society.
