SC forum to lay siege to Karnataka Social Welfare Minister’s residence seeking his resignation

Accusing Social Welfare Minister H.C. Mahadevappa of failing to implement the internal reservation matrix and related issues appropriately, the Forum for Social Justice in Internal Reservation for Scheduled Castes has threatened to lay siege to Dr. Mahadevappa’s residence seeking his resignation on October 10.

A release from the forum, which brings together many Dalit factions, on Tuesday said: “Ideally, there would be no confusion in implementation of internal reservation if the recommendations of the H.N. Nagamohan Das Commission had been implemented as it is. However, after the government tinkered with the recommendations, confusion persists.”

Forum’s convener Basavaraj Kowthal said that though the matrix was announced more than a month ago, there was still no clarity on where 4.7 lakh population of Adi Karnataka, Adi Andhra, and Adi Dravida belong to.

“Direct recruitment to some of the government posts has already commenced. With this confusion, how will these people benefit?,” he wondered.

He also said that nomadic and semi-nomadic castes, which lost the 1% reservation recommended by the commission, have not been compensated yet.

“The Scheduled Castes Commission is yet to be appointed. As the Social Welfare Minister, we hold Dr. Mahadevappa responsible for failure to address the issues revolving around internal reservation,” he said.

He alleged that the government was neither serious nor concerned about the wellbeing of these communities.
