Sankar Foundation performs 176 eye surgeries in a day

Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital at Naiduthota has achieved a milestone by performing 176 eye surgeries in a single day on June 10, recording its highest-ever number of surgeries in a day.

According to K. Bangar Raju, Deputy general manager (PR, liaison and corporate relations), the surgeries were carried out by teams of doctors, operation theatre staff, paramedical personnel, outreach workers, NTR Vaidya Seva staff and Arogya Mitras.

The surgeries included 116 procedures under the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva programme, 19 paid phaco surgeries, 16 corneal surgeries and 21 retina surgeries and procedures. Additional surgeries were performed in the areas of orbit, paediatric ophthalmology, glaucoma and other specialities.

Chairman of the Trust Board, M. Ramdas, congratulated the doctors and supporting staff on the achievement. At a function held on Thursday, Managing Trustee and Chief Executive Officer A. Krishna Kumar felicitated the doctors and staff members in recognition of their efforts. Heads of departments, operation theatre personnel, paramedical staff and outreach teams attended the programme.
