Chief Minister A. Revath Reddy called for the implementation of women’s reservation in legislatures in the spirit of Rajiv Gandhi’s ideals, and urged the Union Government to convene a special session of the Parliament immediately and introduce the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Mr. Reddy announced that the INDIA alliance would extend complete support to the 33% women’s reservation bill. At the same time, he warned against using women’s reservation as a tool for political gain.

He was speaking after paying floral tributes to the statue of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Government Advisor V. Hanumantha Rao, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and corporation chairpersons were present.

Mr. Revanth Reddy described Mr. Rajiv Gandhi as a visionary leader who introduced technology to India and brought global recognition. He also hailed him as a leader who championed women’s reservation and progressive governance through liberalised policies.

Recalling the formation of Telangana, Mr. Reddy said the dream of a separate Telangana State became a reality due to the courageous decision taken by Sonia Gandhi. He stated that Telangana shared an inseparable bond with the Gandhi family that went beyond political ties. “As long as Telangana exists, the people of the State will remember the Gandhi family,” he said.
