Residents of Doddagubbi in East Bengaluru have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Doddagubbi lake, claiming that increasing pollution is killing fish and birds in the waterbody.

According to locals, the lake has been steadily degrading over the past several months, with the water turning a murky green owing to suspected sewage inflow from nearby residential buildings. A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said the situation had become alarming in recent days. “For the last several months, the lake has been polluted, but now it has become much worse. The water has turned completely green, and over the past few days, we have been seeing birds and fish dying because of this pollution. It is heartbreaking to watch a lake that was once so beautiful turn into this,” the resident said.

Situated off Hennur Road, the Doddagubbi lake was once considered a vital ecological space. Residents now fear that unchecked pollution will lead to further ecological damage if authorities do not intervene soon.

Another resident said they have already lodged complaints regarding the issue with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) but are yet to approach other local authorities. They added that despite repeated alerts, no visible action had been taken so far.

Meanwhile, officials from the local gram panchayat said they had not yet received any formal complaints about pollution in the lake. “We will take necessary action if any such issue is brought to our notice,” an official said.
