Senior Congress leader and Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari on Saturday (March 28, 2026) alleged that due to failed policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government thousands of people in the state are standing in line due to shortage and black marketing of many essential products including LPG cylinders, petroleum products, with the government failing to check black marketing.

Mr. Tiwari further alleged that the BJP Government repeatedly makes such statements, which create an atmosphere of panic in the country. “The problem is real, we are seeing videos of people in Uttar Pradesh and other parts facing long queues everywhere, be it at petrol-diesel stations, gas cylinder distribution centers.

The public is in trouble, and the government remains a mute spectator. When the Prime Minister, in his speech in Parliament on the West Asia (Iran-Israel) conflict, made reference to the COVID-19 pandemic and stressed alertness, describing the situation as having long-term repercussions, it is natural that people will be worried. The BJP Government repeatedly makes such statements, which create an atmosphere of panic in the country.

By making ill-considered statements about making preparations like Covid, the government has once again frightened the public. It is the government’s responsibility to make early preparedness in all fronts and prevent any form of black marketing of any item from petroleum products to food items, I feel government failed in it.

Sudden and haphazard decisions have caused immense suffering to the people of the country in the past as well,” told Pramod Tiwari, Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and senior MP from Congress to The Hindu.

Mr. Tiwari hit out at the BJP for criticising Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, “Rahul Gandhi Ji is doing his duty perfectly as Leader of Opposition. Since, the beginning of the Iran-United States conflict, Rahul Ji, has warned the government of adverse consequences and demanded for early preparedness on all front and make sure supply of essential items are not impacted. But the government failed to act on his advice.

Rahul Ji and Congress party believe that due to the government’s weak foreign policy, the prices of essential commodities in the country have increased rapidly and the common people are suffering the consequences. The Indian rupee is continuously falling and has weakened against the dollar, making imported goods more expensive,” added Mr. Tiwari.
