Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president and Sriperumbudur MLA K. Selvaperunthagai told reporters in Chennai on Saturday that he was disappointed with Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan’s remarks that it was not mandatory to inform legislators about the release of water from the Chembarambakkam lake, which is located in Sriperumbudur constituency. This follows a video that has been doing the rounds in which Mr. Selvaperunthagai is seen chiding a Water Resources Department official for not informing him about the event of water release.

Speaking to reporters in Ranipet on Friday, Mr. Duraimurugan said he was disappointed with Mr. Selvaperunthagai’s action and the latter had to know the facts. “It is not mandatory to give information,” the Minister further said.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Saturday, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said he had a lot of respect and regards for senior Minister Duraimurugan, but he was disappointed with his remarks.

“He is a senior Minister, responsible Minister, and a general secretary of a big political party and his remarks are disappointing. Officials are saying it is not mandatory to inform legislators, who are elected representatives of the people. How justified is it? Can’t we question the officials,” Mr. Selvaperunthagai asked.

“The act of few officials should not bring in a bad name to a good governance delivered by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin,” he added.
