Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji on Tuesday urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to request the Centre to name a train after Goddess Kanaka Durga, the presiding deity of the temple atop Indrakeeladri hill. “It could be called either Indrakeeladri Express or Kanaka Durgamma Express,” he suggested.
Mr. Shivaji noted that Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw had recently flagged off seven new trains in poll-bound Bihar. “The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister should be thinking along similar lines, and that’s the kind of vision we expect from him,” he said. He also proposed redesigning the flyover near the Kanaka Durga temple, pointing out that people from areas behind the hill face severe traffic jams when entering One Town without using the flyover. He urged the government to consult technical experts and take appropriate measures to ease congestion. Additionally, Mr. Shivaji called for a new ghat road at the rear side of the hill and suggested a ropeway connecting Bhavani Island to Punnami Ghat to boost tourism in the region. He also asked the government to make public the funds allocated for Dasara festival celebrations.
