PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Tuesday urged the State government to completely withdraw the Tamil Nadu Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2025 without any review, contending that it was against social justice. He argued that the Bill would also affect teachers and non-teaching staff.
Referring to the announcement that the Bill adopted by the Assembly would be reviewed in response to opposition from teachers’ bodies, Mr. Ramadoss urged for withdrawing it without review, contending that it was against students from poor and downtrodden sections of the society.
“The State government has been paying the salaries of the teaching and non-teaching staff in government-aided colleges. If they are converted into private universities through the Bill, there is no chance for the government to pay their salaries,” he said.
There was a guarantee for these employees for their salaries and allowances only as long as they remained government-aided college, Mr. Ramadoss said. He also said that reservation in admissions into private universities would be only up to 35%.
