Telangana Municipal Poll | Initial results indicate Congress in lead, BRS in second position

The initial results of the Telangana Municipal Elections-2026 point at Congress in the lead position. The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) fared well as it crossed the 100 mark. Of the 448 Wards whose results were declared till 11.30 a.m., Congress candidates won in 240 Wards and 140 by BRS, as per information from Telangana State Election Commission.

Though Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was expected to do well, it won in 37 Wards so far. Besides, independent candidates won in 14 Wards, 6 by AIFB, 1 by All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and 1 by CPI (M). And, 12 candidates were elected unanimously. 

The elections were held in 2,569 Wards in 116 Municipalities and 412 Wards in seven Municipal Corporations on Tuesday (February 11, 2026). The counting process began at 8.00 a.m. on Friday (February 13, 2026) and the results began to trickle in from around 10.00 a.m. After the results were declared, Returning Officers handed over election certificates to the winning candidates. 

Of the 12 Wards of Devarakadri Municipality in Mahabubnagar, 6 wards were claimed by Congress, 4 by BRS, 1 by BJP and 1 by an independent candidate.
