Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Manickam Tagore on Friday said Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi would address various issues related to students at Island Grounds in Chennai on Saturday evening.

According to Mr. Tagore, 10,000 to 20,000 students, who registered and received the QR code, will be participating in the event.

Mr. Gandhi will also meet Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at his residence.

“Our leader will address issues related to Tamil Nadu students such as National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, lack of jobs, education for girls and women, and the Union government’s educational policy. It is going to be an interactive session. Though protests are happening in New Delhi, he [Mr. Gandhi] is coming to Chennai because he had agreed to this,” the TNCC president further said.

Bypoll results

Regarding the bypoll results, Mr. Tagore said the AIADMK support base could soon shift to the TVK. “In the last 25 years, this is the first bypoll to be held without money being distributed to voters,” he claimed.

“It is possible that the AIADMK’s support base could shift to the TVK because of the Chief Minister’s governance in the last four months,” he said.

He also criticised DMK leader M.K. Stalin’s repeated use of the word “betrayal”. “I welcome the results. It is a victory for the TVK and its coalition government. He [Mr. Vijay] has brought in significant change,” he said.
