Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao hit out at Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Congress government and warned that the ruling party would face a political backlash similar to what it encountered in 2006.
Addressing a protest in Karimnagar on Saturday (September 5, 2026) on the 1000-day rule of the Congress, KTR questioned the demand for former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s resignation. “Why should KCR resign? Should the person who brought Telangana resign?” he asked, asserting that Mr. Reddy should step down instead.
Recalling the political developments of 2006, when Congress leaders had demanded Mr. Chandrashekar Rao’s resignation in Karimnagar, KTR said the BRS leader’s resignation from the Lok Sabha and the subsequent political developments had dealt a blow to the Congress. He warned that the ruling party should remember that episode before asking for KCR’s resignation again.
He predicted that the Chief Minister and the Congress would face a similar political outcome if they continued to target the BRS chief.
He said the Chief Minister and Congress leaders should take responsibility for what he described as the government’s “420 promises” and alleged failures. “They should resign 420 times for the 420 promises,” he said.
Reacting to the dismissal of a Minister [Konda Surekha] from the State Cabinet, Mr. KTR said removing one Minister would not resolve the Congress government’s problems. “The days are not far when your government itself will be dismissed,” he warned.
He said the BRS would continue to question the Congress government over its election promises and alleged failures, and issued a warning to the ruling party to “remember” the political consequences of its action.
Challenges Rahul Gandhi
KTR also attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenging him to come to Telangana with his ‘Chatron ki Ghoonj’ programme to see the reality. “Why is Rahul Gandhi shying away from Telangana. Is he fearing the students’ backlash here?” he asked.
He said Mr. Gandhi should focus on Telangana youngsters’ wishes as well after promising the moon before the Assembly elections.
