As the State gears up for the local body elections, Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu has emphasised the need for utmost vigilance in handling polling materials and in making arrangements for the counting process to ensure that no lapses occur.

The Collector, along with Joint Collector Kalpana Kumari, inspected the ballot boxes at RISE Engineering College on the outskirts of Ongole on Saturday. Officials have set up facilities for the distribution and reception of election materials, as well as strong rooms and a counting centre for the local body elections, within the college premises.

At the centre, the Collector inspected how the 101 statutory and non-statutory items of equipment required for the elections were being maintained. He instructed the officials to prepare the equipment required for the 224 polling stations in the Municipal Corporation limits.

He also inspected the manner in which the barricades were prepared and the necessary arrangements made as per the rules of the Election Commission.
