An electricity department employee was allegedly assaulted by a homeowner and injured by his three dogs when the former went to take the power meter reading in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, police said on Friday (August 14, 2026). The homeowner has been arrested by the police.
According to the police, the incident took place on Thursday (August 13, 2026) in Indira Nagar area under Hazira police station limits when two contractual staffers of the power department had gone to take the record the power consumption units and generate a bill.
Gwalior Superintendent of Police (SP) Dharm Vir Singh told The Hindu that there was an argument over the bill after which the accused — Beeru Tomar — unleashed his pet dogs on them, and that one of the employees suffered dog bite injuries.
Mr. Singh said that Mr. Tomar, who has a criminal record, has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to negligent conduct with respect to animal.
“He is a man of goon like conduct and has previous criminal cases against him. The complaint is that he assaulted them and left dogs on them. We have arrested him,” Mr. Singh said, adding that one of power department employees has suffered about five wounds but there is no serious injury.
As per the FIR, Mr. Tomar has been booked under BNS Sections 115(2), 127(2), 291, 296(2), 324(4), and 351(3).
In the FIR the victim, Ravindra Singh Rajawat, said that the three dogs were of Rottweiler, Pitbul and Germen Shepherd breeds. He also alleged that his colleague, Aditya Bhadoriya, managed to call some of their co-workers to intervene in the matter after which Mr. Tomar “brandished his gun and threatened us against coming back to the area”.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Rajawat said that the accused slapped him and started abusing them when they were checking power meters in his lane.
“He came and asked who we were, and when we told him our identities, he started threatening and abusing us. When my colleague intervened, he unleashed the dogs behind him. But my colleague managed to escape so he [Mr. Tomar] came back and unleashed the dogs on me,” he said, adding that the dogs grabbed him by his pants and Mr. Tomar by a hand, and dragged him inside the house.
Mr. Rajawat denied that he knew Mr. Tomar from before and said that he had seen him for the first time.
Gwalior City SP (CSP) Nagendra Singh Sikarwar said that the accused also physically assaulted the two victims and broke their meter reading machine.
