The NTR Police Commissionerate arrested a doctor in connection with the mysterious death case of a PG medico who died in Vijayawada Government General Hospital (GGH) on February 5.

Battula Deepika, who was pursuing post-graduation in Anaesthesiology, collapsed in her room in the hospital after taking an injection. Following a complaint lodged by her parents, the Machavaram police registered a case and initiated an investigation.

The police on Monday arrested Amar Sahas who allegedly abetted Deepika to end her life by suicide. Amar was working as doctor in Nandigama Government Hospital in NTR district.

During the investigation, it was reportedly revealed that Deepika spoke with Amar for about nine minutes around 12.30 a.m. on February 4, before ending her life.

“The mobile call data of Deepika revealed that she spoke with Amar several times,” a police officer said.

Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, Central Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Damodar said Amar was booked under Section 108 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 (Abetment to commit suicide). “With Amar refusing to marry her, Deepika resorted to the extreme step. The accused was arrested,” the ACP said.
