Continuing the crackdown on drug peddling and consumption, the Sadashivanagar police raided Pebble Bar, Place Grounds and arrested eight people under the influence of drugs .

Based on a tip-off, a team of police raided the bar around 11.30 p.m. where around 180 people were partying. The police along with the scene of crime officer (SOCO) zeroed in on 16 people on suspicion and subjected them to medical test which proved eight among them had consumed MDMA and marijuana, the police said. The accused have been arrested for consuming drugs under the NDPS act .

The accused have been taken into custody for further investigations to ascertain the source of the drugs. Initial probe revealed that they had purchased and consumed the drugs from outside before attending the party.

The city police are keeping a tab on the hotels, pubs, lodges, party halls and restaurants after reports on drugs supply and consumption. On September 7, in a joint operation, the Cubbon Park police and Central Crime Branch (CCB) raided JW Marriott Hotel and booked the hotel in-charge for allegedly operating beyond permissible hours. Though no narcotic substances were physically recovered from the attendees at the time, preliminary medical tests conducted on-site indicated that a couple of individuals were under the influence of marijuana which they claimed to have sourced and consumed from outside before coming to the party.

On September 8, the Anti-Narcotics Wing (ANW) of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) raided Supreme Suites, a lodge that had allegedly become a hub for drug sales and consumption. The arrested suspects have been identified as 24-year-old Karim and 20-year-old Affan, both from Puttur — who had allegedly been using the hotel not only to sell drugs but also to provide accommodation for users.

A senior police officer, supervising the raid, advised owners of the bars and restaurants and commercial establishments to do due diligence while hosting such programmes. Checking the background of their staff and keeping an eye on any misuse of their premises for illegal activities is mandatory failing which legal action will be initiated, the police warned .
