Private Equity – Venture Capital (PE-VC) firms invested $221 million (across 19 deals) in Tamil Nadu based companies during the first quarter of 2026.

During the same period in 2025, PE-VC firms invested $2,081 across 18 deals, according to data from Venture Intelligence, a research service focused on private company financials, transactions, and their valuations (These figures include Venture Capital type investments, but exclude PE investments in Real Estate).

Six angel investments

Though the number of deals hovered between 15-18, in the last one year, firms seem to be shelling smaller amounts from their pockets. In the first three months of 2026, the State has seen six angel investments. In the first quarter of 2025, the State saw nine angel investments come in.

“The value has collapsed. But what worked in 2025 was there were some large transactions in the first quarter,” said Arun Natarajan, founder and managing director of Venture Intelligence. “But this is the trend across India. There is a 22% decline nationally,” he added.

The national data shows PE-VC companies pumped in over $9.1 billion (across 316 deals) in Indian companies during the first three months of 2026. The investment amount represents a 22% decline over the $11.7 billion (across 337 deals) invested in the same period during 2025 and a decline of 16% when compared to the immediate previous quarter (which witnessed $10.9 billion being invested across 329 deals).
