All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday raised a series of questions to the Union government over India’s policy on China, particularly in the context of the situation along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.

Taking to X Mr Owaisi sought to know what understanding India had reached with China following the military standoff that began in April 2020.

He questioned whether the Indian Army was currently able to patrol all areas it had access to prior to that period and, if not, sought clarity on how long buffer zones would continue to remain in place.

Citing a media report the Hyderabad parliamentarian stated that China’s infrastructure development along the Ladakh border had doubled since 2020 and that it was proceeding at a pace four times faster than India’s. He asked how such developments were being allowed.

The AIMIM leader also queried whether India had succeeded in preventing China from providing military support to Pakistan and questioned the basis of what he described as a “friendship” with China.

“Why are you so afraid of China? Why has your government imposed so many restrictions on our army firing on the Chinese border? You have even made China’s perception of the Line of Actual Control the reference point for the buffer zones,” he posted.

Mr Owaisi said the Parliament should be allowed to function so that the opposition could raise these issues.

In a separate development, Mr Owaisi, ahead of the Telangana civic polls, addressed a gathering in Sangareddy on Monday, where the party has fielded 13 candidates.

Mr Owaisi maintained that Dalits and Muslims in Telangana lack leadership. He said that by voting for the party’s candidates, leadership would be strengthened. “Be it Congress, BRS, or BJP, these parties have always worked on building leadership. Sometimes it is upper caste leadership in which Reddy and Velamas are included. Backward castes, they have been encouraged to develop leadership. But in Telangana, if there is a lack of leadership from the grassroots level, then it is that of the Dalits, and then, that of the largest minority which is the Muslims,” he said.

He alleged that the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi had joined hands in ward 38 to defeat the party’s candidate. He described the alleged truck between the two parties as “Ram-Shyam ki jodi”.
