Over 7,500 officials, including enumerators and supervisors, will be deployed across Ernakulam district for the Houselisting and Housing Census, the first phase of Census 2027, with door-to-door data collection scheduled throughout July.

District officials said preparations for the exercise had reached the final stage with the creation of supervisory circles and the appointment of field personnel. Training programmes for enumerators and supervisors are also progressing, officials added.

According to the district-level deployment plan, as many as 6,512 enumerators and 1,112 supervisors will be deployed across urban and rural areas of the district. The figures include reserve personnel. The largest deployment will be in the Kochi Corporation area, where 1,070 enumerators and 180 supervisors have been assigned. Other major deployments include Kunnathunadu (848 enumerators), Aluva taluk (735), Muvattupuzha taluk (588), and Paravur taluk (576).

Most enumerators have been drawn from the teaching community, while personnel from other government departments have also been assigned for census duties.

Self-enumeration

A key feature of the exercise this time is the option for self-enumeration. Residents can submit their details online between June 16 and June 30 through the Census portal. The houselisting operation by enumerators will be conducted from July 1 to July 31.

Officials said they expect a large number of residents to use the self-enumeration facility. “The process has been designed to be simple and user-friendly. Citizens who complete self-enumeration online will receive a registration ID, which can be shown to enumerators during household visits at the field verification stage,” they added.

Officials stressed that public participation was crucial to the success of the Census exercise. They urged residents to use the self-enumeration option wherever possible and cooperate with enumerators during their visits.

Self-enumeration can be completed by logging into the Census portal using a resident’s mobile number. Only one mobile number can be used for each household, and the same number cannot be used for another household.
