India’s ornamental fisheries sector holds immense untapped potential and can emerge as a global leader with improved infrastructure, robust supply chains, and sustainable practices, experts emphasised at the international conference on Sustainable Ornamental Fisheries – Way Forward held in Kochi.

D.V. Swamy, former chairman of Marine Products Export Development Authority, inaugurated the conference.

Mini Sekharan, Director, School of Industrial Fisheries, Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), presided.

M. Harikrishnan, senior professor, Cusat; B. Madhusoodana Kurup, former Vice Chancellor of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying; and Jonathan Poh, secretary-general of Ornamental Fish International, Singapore, attended.
