Sri Sathya Sai District Collector A. Shyam Prasad on Wednesday instructed the officials to chalk out an action plan to ensure elaborate arrangements for the upcoming centenary celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in Puttaparthi. The event is expected to draw devotees and dignitaries from across India and abroad.
Addressing a review meeting with the district officials and members of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust here, the Collector observed that as the event was declared a State festival, it must reflect the cultural and spiritual ambience of Andhra Pradesh, and should be organised in an eco-friendly manner.
The Collector called for creating round-the-clock amenities in Puttaparthi and several key transit points across the district, including safe drinking water, sanitation, mobile toilets, streetlights, food counters, medical camps, and efficient waste management.
Mr. Shyam Prasad said that vital roads connecting Bengaluru and Puttaparthi should be repaired on a war footing, and special focus should be laid on the airport premises and surroundings, besides creating parking facilities.
Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said that a strategic security action plan with round-the-clock digital surveillance had been chalked out. He said that apart from this, drones, body-worn cameras, repeater stations, and a central command centre with quick response teams would be in place throughout the time of the festival.
The official also highlighted strict enforcement of ban on single-use plastics, urging the use of eco-friendly materials such as paper plates, banana leaves, and cloth bags. Officials of the APSRTC informed the Collector that special buses would be operating to Puttaparthi from all important places in Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai district.
