Metro services on the Yellow Line were disrupted on Monday morning after a group of individuals deliberately obstructed the departure of the first train at R.V. Road Station. The incident occurred during the scheduled 6.00 a.m. departure time, forcing the train to start 35 minutes late at 6.35 a.m.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) officials said that a few passengers from the Green Line, who took the 5 a.m. train and reached the R.V. Road interchange to board the Yellow Line, staged a protest because Yellow Line operations begin only at 6 a.m and they got frustrated as they were early. The commuters prevented the train doors from closing. The police were called to the spot, and once they arrived, services resumed.
According to officials from BMRCL, the obstruction triggered a cascade of delays across the line. One train was short-looped at Central Silk Board to stabilise operations during peak-hour movement.
BMRCL stated that individuals involved in such acts may face imprisonment, fines, or both under the Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. A formal complaint has been lodged with the police.
The disruption comes shortly after BMRCL advanced the Yellow Line’s start time from 6.30 a.m. to 6.00 a.m. from 1 November, following the introduction of a fifth train-set. This upgrade also allowed peak-hour frequency to improve, reducing headway from 19 minutes to 15 minutes.
The corporation has appealed to commuters to cooperate and refrain from actions that disrupt operations.
