The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Kalaburagi, has directed LIC Housing Finance Limited (LIC HFL) to rectify a PAN linkage error and pay ₹40,000 as compensation and litigation costs to a customer.

According to the complaint, Anand Prabhu Sherikar had availed a home loan of ₹30 lakh from LIC Housing Finance on April 26, 2021. After about two years, he obtained a loan from Bank of Baroda, Kalaburagi branch, and cleared the outstanding housing loan LICHF on November 21, 2023.

However, on November 9, 2024, LIC Housing Finance’s Noida branch allegedly linked the complainant’s PAN number to another bank account bearing number 14010067752. As a result, the complainant’s CIBIL score was adversely affected.

Despite making several visits to the LIC Housing Finance branch and requesting correction of the error, the issue remained unresolved, prompting him to approach the District Consumer Commission, Kalaburagi, through advocate Shivaprakash Saradagi on June 3, 2025.

After hearing the matter and examining the records, the Commission, comprising In-charge President Malati Guranna and member Lokesh, held LIC Housing Finance responsible for deficiency in service.

In its order, the Commission directed the LICHF to correct the PAN details, and issue a loan closure and no-dues certificate to the complainant.

The Commission also ordered LIC Housing Finance to pay ₹25,000 as compensation, ₹10,000 towards mental agony and ₹5,000 towards litigation expenses, totalling ₹40,000, within 45 days.

The Commission also ruled that if the PAN linkage error is not rectified within 45 days, the company will have to pay an additional penalty of ₹500 per day to the complainant until compliance with the order.
