Normal business returned to a majority of retail fuel outlets in delta districts on Friday with oil markting companies and the district administration assuring citizens that there was sufficient stock of fuel.

While Thanjavur Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam in a statement on Thursday evening said sufficient quantity of petrol was available for distribution in the district and urged consumers to desist from panic buying, the district administration of the three other delta districts discussed the issue with the representatives of oil marketing companies and fuel distributors and directed them to create awareness among the consumers with the help of local police.

While stating that normal supply from the oil marketing companies to retail outlets remained unaffected, Ms. Priyanka Pankajam exhorted the retail outlets not to sell petrol to customers bringing plastic cans and bottles.

However, some petrol bunks in urban pockets remained shut on Friday as they were yet to receive fresh stock, sources added.
