The Parappana Agrahara police have booked a case against a 42-year-old clothing shop owner for assaulting his minor son.

Based on the complaint filed by the mother of the victim, the police booked Anand Reddy, charging him under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, on Wednesday.

According to the complaint, the accused had been punishing his 10-year-old son, a class V student, harshly for the last one year. He would beat him for trivial reasons on the pretext of disciplining him for not studying, the complaint said.

On Tuesday night, Anand Reddy allegedly hit the boy with a wooden scale for two hours. The boy was exhausted and taken to a hospital. The boy’s mother was also allegedly assaulted when she tried to intervene.

She lodged a complaint with the police against her husband.
