Chittoor district police on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) night arrested a 42-year-old man within 24 hours of registering a case for alleged sexual assault on a minor girl in Bangarupalyam mandal, Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi said.

According to the police, the incident took place on July 17. The minor disclosed the alleged assault to her parents, following which her mother lodged a complaint at the Bangarupalyam police station on the night of July 20.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 65(1), 75(2), 78(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 4 read with Section 3(a) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Special police teams working under the supervision of Deputy SP (Palamaner) Degala Prabhakar arrested the accused near the Paleru flyover on the night of July 21. He was later remanded in judicial custody. The SP commended the Bangarupalyam police team for its swift action.
